Scott Herbst

Head of Scripted Development and EVP

Lionsgate Television

As Lionsgate Television EVP and Head of Development, Scott Herbst oversees the development of scripted series for Lionsgate’s Television Group, one of the largest independent television businesses in the world. He and his team are responsible for identifying and developing premium content for an ever-expanding array of buyers and leveraging the Company’s production partnerships to create premium scripted shows.

Herbst oversaw the Emmy nominated series “Love and Death” from the “Big Little Lies” team of David E. Kelley and Nicole Kidman on HBO and the Jon Cryer comedy “Extended Family” for NBC, which premiered in December. Upcoming series include a studio comedy series written, produced by, and starring Seth Rogen, and the true crime drama “Manhunt” starring
Emmy Award-winner Tobias Menzies – both at Apple TV+ – as well as the thriller “The Hunting Wives” at STARZ.

He also helped deliver all of Lionsgate’s broadcast series including “Ghosts” for CBS, one of the top half-hour comedies on television; “Home Economics,” which ran for three seasons on ABC; and “Welcome to Flatch,” which ran for two seasons on FOX. Herbst shepherded the fan favorite “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” which ran on NBC and became a holiday feature-length film “Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas” for Roku. In addition, he leads a number of STARZ series including the historical drama “The Serpent Queen.”

Herbst oversees the Company’s production partnerships with 3 Arts Entertainment and BBC Studios Los Angeles, as well as managing Lionsgate’s relationships with A-list producers Point Grey Pictures, Sarah Timberman & Carl Beverly, The Tannenbaum Company, Temple Hill Productions, Paul Feig, Bob Greenblatt, and Austin Winsberg.

Prior to joining Lionsgate, Herbst served as Vice President of Scripted Programming for NBCU International. In this role, he was a producer on “You, Me and the Apocalypse,” and “Glitch.” In addition, Herbst oversaw shows including “London Spy” and developed and sold “Hanna,” which was on Amazon.

Herbst began his career working for the President of Lakeshore Films, where he grew into a Vice President of Development role. During his tenure at Lakeshore, Herbst worked on such films as “The Lincoln Lawyer,” “Stand Up Guys, and “One for the Money.” His biggest achievement at Lakeshore was building up the Company’s television department.

Herbst was named to Variety’s prestigious Hollywood’s New Leaders of 2021 list. He is a New York native and an alum of Syracuse University’s S. I. Newhouse School.
