Bungalow was founded by CEO Robert Friedman, a 30-year entertainment veteran, who has held an array of senior executive positions including President of Radical Media & Entertainment; President of AOL, Interactive Marketing, TV & Ad Sales; Co-Chairman of New Line Cinema in charge of worldwide Theatrical Marketing and Licensing and President of New Line Television, which he launched for the company. New Line Cinema content included Academy Award-winning Lord of the Rings, Austin Powers, Rush Hour, Dumb & Dumber, Shine as well as a wide array of television and documentary projects. Friedman was an original member of the start-up team at MTV Networks, where he spent over a decade.

Bungalow’s recently produced series and documentary films include Little Richard: I Am Everything for Max, Serving the Hamptons on Discovery+ and The Panama Papers for EPIX. Other projects include the four-part mini-series Surviving Jeffrey Epstein for Lifetime, Roswell: The First Witness for History, the five-part mini-series The Preppy Murder for AMC/Sundance, and the Emmy Award winning GIVE for NBC, among others.  Other series include Landmarks Live in Concert for PBS, Big Bad BBQ Brawl for the Cooking Channel, and 36 Hours with the New York Times for Travel Channel. The company produced the scripted dramas APB on Fox, Amazon’s Highston, Netflix’s Insatiable, and Amazon’s Modern Love,in addition to Clive Owen’s feature film, The Confirmation.

His industry honors include being named "Media Man of the Year" by ADWEEK, named one of the top 100 marketers in the country by AdAge, and most recently an inductee into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame where he was also distinguished with the Chairman’s Award. Friedman serves on the Board of International Radio and Television Society (IRTS), The International Academy of TV Arts and Sciences and the TV industry’s NATPE association. He has been a member of Young Presidents' Organization (YPO/WPO) for over two decades. Friedman also serves on the boards of AccuWeather, Mount Sinai Health System, and Columbia Graduate School of Business. He is a Trustee Emeritus of Vassar College, and was the 2009 Commencement Speaker at the Business School commencement.

Friedman was one of the first men admitted to Vassar College where he received a B.A. in psychology in 1978. He earned his M.B.A. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business in 1980. He is married to Dr. Elissa Gretz Friedman, who currently runs the Menopause Institute at Mount Sinai. They have two daughters who both attended Williams College: one of whom is a physician at Penn University Hospital, and the other works at American Express after graduating from Columbia Business School.
