Clelia Mountford is a multi-BAFTA award-winning television and film producer who recently founded the comedy and drama company SUNBURNT PENGUIN, an All3Media label.
She previously co-founded Merman with Sharon Horgan in 2014, and via that company, executive produced two series of the BAFTA award-winning, and EMMY nominated BAD SISTERS (Apple TV+), co-written by Sharon Horgan, who also stars.
Clelia executive produced the upcoming Channel 4 series DISABILITY BENEFITS with Rosie Jones and AMANDALAND, for the BBC, starring Lucy Punch. She executive produced the Sky comedy drama DREAMLAND (Sky), starring Lily Allen and Freema Agyeman. She produced two series of the award-winning THERE SHE GOES (BBC Two) written by Shaun Pye and starring David Tennant and Jessica Hynes, as well as the critically-acclaimed THERE SHE GOES SPECIAL. Further comedy credits include three series of the BAFTA-award winning comedy MOTHERLAND (BBC Two) and two critically acclaimed MOTHERLAND CHRISTMAS SPECIALS (BBC Two).
Clelia’s other executive producer credits include both series of comedy drama FRAYED (Sky One/ABC Australia), written by and starring Sarah Kendall; FRANK OF IRELAND (C4/Amazon), created by Brian and Domhnall Gleeson and Michael Moloney; two series of American horror SHINING VALE (Starz) starring Courteney Cox, two series of animated comedy series HOUSEBROKEN (Fox), starring Lisa Kudrow; and both series of THIS WAY UP (Channel 4/HULU) written by Aisling Bea. Clelia also produced the third season of THE INCREASINGLY POOR DECISIONS OF TODD MARGARET, created by and starring David Cross.
Further credits include Executive Producer on WOMEN ON THE VERGE, (W/RTE), created by Lorna Martin and Sharon Horgan and starring Kerry Condon, Eileen Walsh and Nina Sosanya, Amazon Original film HERSELF starring Claire Dunne, URBAN MYTH ANDY & THE DONALD starring Anthony Atamanuik and Jack McBrayer; and MORGANA ROBINSON’S SUMMER SHORT written by Sharon Horgan which won a BAFTA TV Award in 2018 for Best Short Form Programme (Sky Arts).
Clelia devised and produced two series of the comedy drama adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov’s A YOUNG DOCTOR’S NOTEBOOK (Sky Arts) starring Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe. The show received huge critical acclaim, winning record-breaking audiences for Sky Arts. She produced MR SLOANE (Sky Atlantic) starring Nick Frost and Olivia Colman, David Cross’s BLISS (Sky One) starring Stephen Mangan and Heather Graham and THE CIRCUIT (Channel 4) by Sharon Horgan and Dennis Kelly, starring Adeel Akhtar and Eva Birthistle and the audio drama PEOPLE WHO KNEW ME, starring Rosamund Pike and Hugh Laurie.
Prior to founding Merman, Clelia held roles as Head of Comedy at RDF and Head of Radio and TV Script Associate at TalkbackThames.
As Head of Comedy at RDF, she executive produced two series of THE INCREASINGLY POOR DECISIONS OF TODD MARGARET for IFC and Channel 4. The series starred David Cross, Will Arnett, Spike Jonze, Sharon Horgan, Blake Harrison and Jon Hamm.
Before working in television and radio, Clelia was a theatre producer and worked on shows such as the Royal Court Classics, Shadowlands, Misery and Hysteria.
She is regularly invited to speak on international panels, has guested on podcasts, contributes to trade articles, and has given fireside chats in London and Melbourne. She is a visiting tutor at NFTS on their Creative Entrepreneurship MA and the NFTS Comedy Writing course. She also mentors via WFTV, NFTS and the Erich Pommer Institute.
She’s a BAFTA and International Emmy member and often serves on Awards Juries for BAFTA, Broadcast, RTS, International Emmys, and the LOVIES.
