Brian Tannenbaum is Head of Originals for Roku Media, where he leads all aspects of original programming for Roku, including scripted series, unscripted series, feature films, and live events. A key member of the team behind the launch of the Roku Originals banner, he manages Roku’s original content strategy across all stages – from deal-structuring, to development, through platform launch.
Tannenbaum oversees Roku’s forthcoming original slate, including projects fronted by Tracee Ellis Ross (Tracee Travels (wt)), Keanu Reeves (Visionaires: The Arch Project), Charlie Puth (The Charlie Puth Show), and John Cena (What Drives You). These projects join Roku’s returning, original programming, including The Great American Baking Show and Honest Renovations, both renewed for a third season, and the Hello Sunshine produced Side Hustlers, having just premiered its second season, and led by Emma Grede & Ashley Graham.
Notably, this year, he structured the agreement with Paramount TV Studios for Roku to be the exclusive, premiere home of the original scripted series The Spiderwick Chronicles, the television adaptation of the globally-acclaimed book series of the same name by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. The Spiderwick Chronicles debuted as the not only #1 title by reach and engagement on The Roku Channel, reaching millions of people, but also the most watched on-demand title to ever debut in The Roku Channel’s history.
He has also forged partnerships to expand Roku’s original sports programming -- giving viewers unprecedented access into the world’s most prominent sports leagues, including partnerships with NFL Films & Skydance Sports on documentary NFL Draft: The Pick Is In; the WWE to create docuseries WWE: Next Gen’; and the UFC to bring audiences docuseries Fight Inc: Inside the UFC.
Prior to joining Roku, Tannenbaum led Alternative and Unscripted programming for the short-form streaming service Quibi, managing a slate of more than 50 television titles. Tannenbaum got his start in the entertainment industry at Lionsgate, where he last served as Senior Vice President of Creative and Business Affairs, Alternative Programming. During his tenure, he guided the development and production of series for Lionsgate’s fast-growing alternative television business, including Kevin Hart: What the Fit (YouTube), Selling Sunset (Netflix), as well as You Kiddin’ Me (Facebook Watch), which he executive produced alongside Kim Kardashian West. Combining the responsibilities of a creative and business affairs executive, he also oversaw and negotiated all unscripted network agreements across broadcast, cable and streaming platforms on behalf of the studio.
Tannenbaum is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he received a BA in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics.
